For this handmade pillow, I used a Double Feather Heart motif and stipple quilted around it.  The Double Feather Heart design was created using trapunto style quilting, so that area has two layers of batting.  The stippled background lies flatter than the rest, making the stuffed parts stand out even more.  I triple stitched all seams to provide reinforced strength in the pillow construction.  I used a red metalic thread from the Sulky line to stitch around the feathered heart.  I then used a deep red thread from the Bottom Line Thread series produced by Superior Threads for stippling the pillow top.  It's a very small thread with a silky finish, perfect for heirloom stitching.  The fabric is 100% cotton from the Fairy Frost fabric line and the batting is a 16 oz. polyester batt specifically designed for trapunto work by providing a very high loft.  The back has two layers of double fold hemmed fabric overlapping so that a pillow form can be inserted for use or removed for washing. Every pillow is machine washable and dryable, however these are handmade items so please use the delicate cycle and low heat.  Excessive washing can cause quilts to wear faster.

The pillow form insert I used was manufactured by Home Elegance.  It has a 100% cotton cover, 300 thread count jacquard pattern, and a siliconized micro denier gel fiber.  It is "the ultimate luxury pillow".  It is non-allergenic, machine washable, and measures 12" X 16".
