You must bring your own sewing machine. It must be in good working order and you need to be familiar with how your machine works.
This class is another beginner class introducing you to quilting and chain piecing techniques. This is an excellent follow up course for the log cabin class because you will focus on getting that perfect 1/4" seam allowance and improve your quilting skills.
Some of the subjects addressed will be:
This quilt requires attending three class sessions. In the first class we will go over how to cut your strips, chain piecing, and pressing techniques that won't distort your blocks. We will begin the assembly of the red and white block in class and your homework will be to finish all the red and white blocks for the quilt. We normally allow 2 weeks between sessions to make sure everyone has ample time to complete thier homework. You will be given an instruction packet, as well as a business card with my cell phone number on it, in case you have any problems with your "homework".
In the second session, we will take a look at the blue block. You will be using much smaller strips to make a block inside a block, so we will go over the uses of starch and how to keep distortion to a minimum. After practicing your 1/4" seam allowance, we will start the assembly of the blue and white blocks. Your homework will be to complete all the blue and white blocks for the quilt.
In the third session, we will go over how to assemble the entire quilt top and techniques for perfectly aligned seams. We will then measure the tops and go over how to apply a mitered border.
The total cost of the class is 65.00 ($21.67 per session) and must be paid in full before the first session. That price is only for the lesson and does not include materials. You are welcome to bring scraps from your personal fabric stash or fabric may be purchased at any fabric store.
You are welcome to contact me if you have any questions about the class.
